The 33rd Annual Young Poets Contest

Open to all Delaware County Students!

For the 33rd year, the Mad Poets Society and Delaware County Libraries present the Delaware County Young Poets Contest. Entries are being accepted from students throughout Delaware County, from first grade through twelfth grade from March 1 through April 1, 2022. Submit one original poem per student to any public library in Delaware County or online at http://www.delcolibraries.org/poetry-contest. Poems will be judged by grade level. Original poems must be typed or written neatly on an 8 ½ by 11 size sheet of paper (no odd size or construction paper, please).

Please include student’s name, phone number, address, parent email (no school emails), grade, and school on the top right (front) of the poem.  If the information is not listed, the entry will be disqualified. Contact information is for notification purposes only and will not be shared. Winners will be contacted by email the week of May 2 and will be invited to send a recorded reading of their work for posting on social media. Winners’ poems and names will be published in our annual poetry anthology, posted on Delaware County Libraries’ website, as well as the Mad Poets Society website.

The Young Poets Contest will culminate in a special virtual awards event in June. The contest is sponsored by the Mad Poets Society, Delaware County Libraries, Keystone State Literacy Association: Delaware County, Rose Tree Media Optimist Club, Pennsylvania Poetry Society, and Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
