DCLS
ebook/audiobook Survey
DCLS has gotten great
response to its survey on using downloadable ebooks & audiobooks.
Several people had
questions or comments and DCLS is unable to reach those people
directly, so below are responses to questions and comments from
the survey.
Q.
please,please download
jennifer weiner.thanks
A.
We love local author
Jennifer Weiner. Unfortunately, her publisher is Simon & Schuster
and they don't allow their ebooks to be sold to libraries. Here's
their contact page: http://www.simonandschuster.com/about/contact_us
if you'd like to help change their mind.
Q.
Why have the Kindle titles disappeared from Overdrive?
A.
Yikes, they're working
on our end, e-mail support or give us a call to troubleshoot.
(see below)
Q.
I
have been unsuccessful at being able to get the book transferred
from the download program on my pc to my Nook. Is there someone
I can speak with for assistance? -- And: I've had a lot of trouble
getting audio from site to iPod
A.
At the bottom of each page of the digital library catalog (and
this page) is a link for support. Send us an e-mail with your
question or call DCLS between 8:30 and 4:30 M-F -- 610-891-8622.
Be sure to include your library card number, title in question
and hardware you're using.
Q.
I use the advanced search
function, but the ability to browse only/all ebooks as opposed
to the mix of ebook/audio would be very helpful.
A.
That feature is available.
On the left menu, you'll see a button for Collections. Click that
and a submenu will open and a choice will be: View all eBooks.
Q.
The ability to search
for only audiobooks or only ebooks would be helpful.
A.
That feature is available.
Just under the main search box in the upper right corner is a
link for Advanced Search. With that search form you can limit
your search to just audiobooks or ebooks. And you can check the
box to "Only show titles with copies available." See
answer above to use the browse by format option.
Q.
Need longer than 14
days for checkout
A.
At this point DCLS has only been buying downloadable materials
for a few years and the collection is small. In order to share
our 10,000 item collection with as many people as possible we've
had to keep the lending period brief.
Q.
I wish the waiting lists
weren't so long!! -- I wish there were more copies available.
-- Need more books, thanks!
A.
Even with significant
budget cuts, DCLS has been able to increase the budget for downloadable
material and grants have been submitted for more material. You
can also make a donation to the Library
Foundation of Delaware County to help fund more ebooks.
Q.
The search engine for
ebooks is not very user friendly. --- Search functionality is
difficult to use.
A.
To help speed searching,
the vendor for the service has been upgrading its hardware to
handle the significant increase in traffic since Christmas. DCLS
will also update the website with input from this survey.
Q.
I went from reading
1-2 books a year to reading 20 books last year! I love the online
library! THANK YOU!
A.
No, thank you!
