Reading Club 2014
For Pre-schoolers, K-6 Students,
Teens & Adults
The Delaware County Library System (DCLS) and the 26 member libraries will be participating in the collaborative Summer Library Program this June. This year’s theme, “Fizz, Boom, Read!,” explores all types of science topics from robots to experiments to geology and much, much more. The 2014 Summer Library Program is open to all ages – preschool through adult – with programs, storytimes and a reading club.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if every child participated in summer reading, and as a result, we raised literacy rates throughout the area? Children learn best when their learning is not interrupted – and summer vacation is a long interruption! Without practice, children forget facts and important “how to” skills. The DCLS Summer Library Program helps children’s minds stay active by bridging the gap between school years.
Nurturing basic literacy skills is one of the goals of PA Forward | Pennsylvania Libraries, an initiative of the Pennsylvania Library Association. Research shows that a child’s library use raises his or her fourth grade assessment scores. Help us to spark learning in all of our children this summer by supporting and participating in the Summer Library Program.
