YOUTH SERVICES
LIBRARIAN
FULL TIME/40 HOUR WEEK
Primary Duties:
- Plans and coordinates
the operation of the Children's Room and the Young Adult (YA)
section.
- Selects and oversees
the collection of materials, both print and non-print, for the
juvenile and YA fiction and non-fiction collections
- Serves as children's
services reference librarian by assisting children and their
parents/caregivers in the location of print and non-print material
for school assignments and recreational reading, providing assistance
to children and adults with Readers’ Advisory services
and instruction in the use of the Online Public Access Catalog
and other information resources such as the Internet, and preparing
reading lists, bibliographies, and book displays.
- Promotes use of
the library by children by:
- Being an ongoing
and visible presence to the youth and their parents /caregivers
- Planning, executing
and measuring children's programs including Summer
Reading Club, Science in the Summer, Annual Bookmark Contest
following DCLS guidelines, reading contests, workshops,
entertainment, book discussions,
- Preparing and
delivering a regular series of story hours for pre-school
age children.
- Performing outreach
services P
- Prepares the monthly
library calendar.
- Assists at the Circulation
Desk when necessary.
Experience
and Training Required:
Masters degree in
library science (current MLS students close to completion of degree
will be considered).
Experience working
directly with children.
Basic computer skills
with Microsoft Office and comfortable knowledge of search engines
and safety practices of the Internet.
