A surprisingly entertaining, at times humorous, basic explanation of COVID-19 and needed precautions for elementary age children and young teens.

All kids going into Grades 1-6 are welcome to join our Pen Pal Program! After filling out a short questionnaire, you will get matched with a Pen Pal who lives in another town in Delaware County. Write letter between you and your Pen Pal and drop them off and pick them up at your local library! 

These resources are primarily for preschool children, and focus on skills children need in order to be ready to learn to read and write.  

Delaware County Libraries invites parents and caregivers to bring their young children to infant and toddler storytimes in local libraries. 

Each summer, Delaware County Libraries host Journey Across Delco-a challenge to children and their families to travel around the county and check out the activities that each library has to offer! For those who make it to at least five libraries, they are invited to an end of summer party in Rose Tree Park, and for those who make it to all 28 of our libraries, there is a special prize waiting for you!

Each spring, Longwood Gardens hosts their Community Read program in libraries across Southeastern Pennsylvania. Community Read is a program designed to encourage reading for pleasure and to start a conversation. Read with us and engage in an event to learn more! Those who attend events at libraries in Delaware County get free tickets to Longwood Gardens!

Pennsylvania's One Book, Every Young Child is a valuable program that highlights the importance of early literacy development in preschoolers and the significance of reading early and often to children, as well as engaging them in conversation and other activities around books.

Can't browse for books and need a few recommendations? Fill out this brief survey and a team of real Delco librarians will compile reading suggestions just for you! Look over our recommendations and then use our catalog or call your local library to place holds for curbside pickup.

GSK Science in the Summer™ is a free science education program that helps elementary school children “grow into science.” Through classes held in public libraries and other community-based organizations, the program gets kids excited about learning science with hands-on experiments. 

Children's Books in ASL

Located in the field behind the amphitheater stage, StoryWalk is a children's story book that is spread out page by page across 19 reading stations along an approximately .25 mile trail that promotes health and literacy in children. 

Storyline Online is a program of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. designed to strengthen comprehension and verbal and written skills for elementary English-language learners.

This year’s Summer Quest theme is Tails and Tales! Libraries across Delaware County will be offering fun programs and activities related to animal tales and education, so check our library calendar as summer gets closer. Beginning on June 1, all Delco Libraries will offer a Tales and Tails on-line reading challenge.  Pre-registration will begin May 17th.

More than 400 original picture books, one fourth of them written in Spanish. The digital books provide audio narrations in more than 40 languages, spoken by native speakers in warm, expressive voices.
