Though Our Buildings are Closed, the Library is Always Open

We are here for you!

To Our Library Community:

Governor Wolf recently put in place a stay at home order for Delaware County. This order went into effect on March 23 and will continue through April 30. As a result, all 26-member libraries within the Delaware County Library System will remain closed until further notice.

Even though our buildings are closed, Delaware County Libraries (DCL) remain committed to providing County residents with access to books, materials, online resources, and other library services. We have an extensive collection of eBooks and audiobooks available to download to your computer or mobile device. We also offer current and back issues of close to 100 magazines through our subscription to RBdigital that are available for checkout. In addition, DCL gives patrons access to many online subscription databases including Reference USA, Brainfuse (one-on-one tutoring, homework help, and resources for job seekers as well as veterans), Ancestry Library, Power Library, Newsbank (which includes free access to the Delaware County Daily Times and Philadelphia Inquirer), and for our littlest members, TumbleBooks. All of these are available FREE with your library card and can be accessed from our website, www.delcolibraries.org.

“In this time of uncertainty, books are a refuge for many, a way to distract us from our circumstances and transport us to somewhere else, if only for a short while,” says Delaware County Libraries Director Catherine Bittle. “We at DCL want to give all Delaware County residents the opportunity to use our resources while helping to ensure everyone’s health and wellbeing.” If you do not currently have a library card, please email your name, address, phone number, and birthdate to support@delcolibraries.org and we will email you back a library barcode number that will give you instant access to all of our online resources. Since March 9, we have sent out almost 500 new library card numbers.

Our libraries have also expanded online services such as live stream storytimes on YouTube, Q & A with a librarian, Quizzo, Paperless Pen Pals, and a myriad of other virtual events. We have extended all material due dates to May 22 and no fines are accruing while we are closed, so please hold onto your materials until libraries reopen.  Check out our social media pages for the latest news and information: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Last but certainly not least, Delaware County Libraries would like to say thank you to all of our County officials, medical personnel, and essential workers for all of their unbelievably hard work and sacrifice during this pandemic. We could not do this without them!

Sincerely,

The Staff of the Delaware County Libraries
