Adult Services Coordinator

The Swarthmore Public Library (SwPL) in Swarthmore, PA is looking for a part-time Adult Services Coordinator. This position plans, organizes, and directs library programs and services for adults and administers and maintains the Library’s website. This position also performs a wide variety of basic public, technical, and clerical services to aid in the operation of the public library. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Library Director.

Specific Responsibilities
 Develop and coordinate adult programs, including fundraising events.
 Provide a full range of circulation services, including reference and readers advisory.
 Select materials for, maintain, and display the adult collection; select eBooks for both adults and children.
 Troubleshoot technology problems for public including issues with the Internet, social media, smartphones, tablets, eReaders, databases, and library system software.
 Coordinate the Library’s Homebound Express delivery service.
 Administer website on WordPress platform.
 Research, write, and manage grants for adult services.
 Represent the library to community group and attend professional workshops, continuing education courses, and consortium meetings.
 Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

Education & Experience:
 Bachelor’s degree in Library Science or related field.
 Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a library setting.
Special Requirements:
Hiring and continued employment are contingent on satisfactory passage of Pennsylvania Criminal History and Child Abuse Clearances.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 Desire and ability to serve the public with enthusiasm, friendliness, tact, and diplomacy.
 Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people.
 Creative drive to provide the Swarthmore Library community with innovative programs and services.
 Experience with website management and the Wordpress platform.
 Working knowledge of basic reference sources, techniques, and databases.
 Ability to exercise mature independent judgment and be self-motivated. Excellent multi-tasking, time management, and organizational skills are important.
 Ability to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Physical Demands:
Moderate to substantial physical effort is required to perform duties under typical work conditions. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, speak, hear, and use hands to operate office equipment, and reach with hands and arms. Vision requirements include the ability to read routine and complex documents and use a computer. The employee is sometimes required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Hours & Salary:
 Minimum of 20 hours per week. The required hours for this position include some evenings and Saturday shifts.
 Must be adaptable to changing work hours and have flexibility to fill in where needed.
 Salary is $15-$17 per hour dependent on qualifications. PTO is provided.
