Head of Circulation

Marple Library is seeking a highly motivated Head of Circulation to manage all circulation desk activities for the library under the direction of the Library Director. This position requires superior customer service skills, the ability to train and supervise staff and the flexibility to learn new technology as needed. Cooperation as a team member in performing duties is essential.

Responsibilities

Provides information service, such as answering questions regarding the Public Access Catalog and assists public in locating materials in the library.  Answers routine inquiries, resolves account disputes and refers persons requiring professional assistance to the librarian. 

Assists in the interview and selection of circulation staff. Provides orientation, training, scheduling and assignment of duties for staff.  Aids in preparing and conducting performance evaluations annually.  Performs other personnel actions as necessary. Prepares and conducts quarterly staff meetings. 

Works with staff to ensure that patron/staff interaction is accomplished in a positive, efficient and pleasant manner.

Requirements

Minimum of five years related library experience and an associate degree preferred.

Experience with office technology and the integrated library system (Sierra or its equivalent).

Additional Requirements

Pennsylvania criminal, child abuse and FBI background checks required

Compensation

$35,000-$38,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include vacation and sick leave, health and dental insurance, pension plan and optional TIAA-CREF participation.

The typical work hours are Monday thru Friday, 9:00 am-5:00 pm.  Occasionally, evening and weekend hours may be required.  Current hours may vary due to the COVID-19 health crisis.
